IMPACT: Improving Outcomes in Adults with Atopic Dermatitis

Duration: 60 minutes

Many children with eczema continue to have eczema into adulthood. One study in 2014 followed over 7000 children with eczema and found 80% had symptoms into adulthood.

This online module walks through the case of a young adult woman with eczema including:

• Her clinical experiences with the condition and with the treatment
  Strategies you can implement to promote adherence
• The psychological impact of atopic dermatitis with comment by expert Dr Melissa Oxlad
• Strategies to address the psychological impact that you can use in primary care
• Psychological red flags to watch our for, and
• A quick quiz of your topical corticosteroid knowledge

Learning objectives:

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify the considerable burden of atopic dermatitis on patients, their families, and caregivers and the importance of patient and caregiver education for long-lasting effective management
• Educate patients, their families and caregivers to improve their understanding of atopic dermatitis and promote adherence to therapies
• Apply strategies and tools that enhance patient – clinician communication and improve patient safety and quality of care
